Here is Scott's first interview since being hospitalized for an injury suffered during the now infamous police crackdown at Occupy Oakland. You can hear that his speech is a little compromised, and he speaks a bit slowly. But given the severity of his injury, he has made a remarkable recovery. He continues to work with a speech therapist, and doctors expect him to fully recover. Scott is a proud member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, and in this video he shares not only an update on his health, but also why he became involved in anti-war organizing and the Occupy Movement. Click on this image to watch the video: Thank you to USA Today producer Solay Howell, and reporter Rick Hampson for this great video and interview. And many thanks to all those who spoke out to Oakland Mayor Jean Quan for justice for Scott and for donating to his medical fund. Please share this story with your friends via Facebook and Twitter: Thanks for your continued support of Scott, Iraq Veterans Against the War |
Reference to Scott in the lyrics of Third Eye Blind's new Occupy song "If Ever There Was a Time".
Also, in the intro, you can hear the soundclip of people calling for the medic for Scott.
Lyrics:
if there ever was a time, it would be now is all I'm saying if there ever was a time to get on your feet and take it to the street cause you're the one who's getting played right now by the game they're playing come on meet me down at Zuccotti park
oh where are the youth, we need you now
come speak the truth, come break it down
where are the youth, we need you nowif there ever was a time, it would be now
to make the masters hear this
if there ever was a time to get downtown
and get non violent and fearless
things only get brighter when you light a spark
everywhere you go right now is Zuccotti parkand news corps says you don't have a plan
well sit down man, i'll tell you again
the plan's to stand together up to greed
and a tear gas can in a veteran's face
won't change the case(chorus)
if there ever was a time, it would be now
for the rest of us
if there ever was a time it would be now
cause money and power are incestuous
a moment makes a movement
or it fades out in the dark
come on meet me down at Zuccotti parkand i saw a sign in the oakland spring
it said "occupy everything!"
or by and for and off won't mean a thing

Hey Scott,
My name is Vanessa Studnick. I wish I’d messaged you sooner, I just didn’t and still don’t know how to articulate myself. My friends and I were the first by your side, screaming for a medic – I was in the green shorts/orange shirt. We had to drag you away as the police began to fire more grenades at us... I’d love to see you when you are well enough. That night is all I can think of. All of my thoughts are with you, get well soon.
With all the love I have,
Vanessa Studnick
ps I attached a picture of the sign I wore last week when I had no voice, from the tear gas / screaming. I'd lost my voice, but refused to remain silent.
